Club Meeting and Slide Show
Wednesday January 18, 7pm
Roberts Creek School

Eagle Walz will be talking about the the latest cabins and shelters that have been built along the Sunshine Coast Trail in Powell River. So far, the Powell River Parks and Wilderness Society has built seven cabins and shelters along the 180 km trail, with more to come. Eagle Walz is a founder of the Powell River Parks and Wilderness Society and author of the Sunshine Coast Trail Guide Book. It should be a very interesting presentation.

Overnight Trips

Marriot Basin, Feb 10 - 12 FULL

We have booked 2 nights at the Wendy Thompson Hut in Marriot Basin. This is an ACC hut located off the Duffy Lake Road past Pemberton. We have 8 spots available and will be sharing the hut with other ACC users. The hut is heated with a kerosene stove (we have to each bring in a litre of kerosene) and there are stoves and pots provided for cooking. Marriot Basin is a beautiful area with good skiing. This trip is for intermediate or advanced skiers, who should have taken an avalanche course. Its about a 3 hour ski in, climbing about 2000 feet.

McNair Cabin, MARCH 3-4   FULL

This will be an overnight trip to McNair cabin. This is a great chance to see the Tet's least visited cabin in winter. The ski in is about 4 hours over rolling terrain, and is suitable to beginner-intermediate skiers. Bring your own sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and cooking utensils.

Wells Gray - Discovery Cabin
March 11 - 16,  2012 FULL

We will be helicoptering in to Discovery cabin with two guides for six days/5 nights of glorious powder (fingers crossed, but usually the snow is pretty reliable there). Discovery has lots of great terrain of varying levels, and the cabin is very comfortable, with a full kitchen and a sauna. Skiing ability should be intermediate to advanced, with reasonable fitness (there is a fairly long ski out on the last day). Summer Trips to Elizabeth Parker Hut at
Lake O'Hara in Yoho National Park
July 16-19, Aug 27-30, Sept 10-13

The TOC has managed to "win" 3 dates in the Elizabeth Parker Hut lottery! The hiking is absolutely fantastic and you can even hike between tea huts. Lake O'Hara is considered "the jewel of the Canadian Rockies" and because of its popularity and fragility there is a visitor quota in place. Accommodation is hard to secure, or expensive, so we are lucky to have these options. These are leaderless trips but the trails and routes are well laid and well signed in this area known as one of Canada'a premier hiking destinations. There are still some spaces for all dates, each is 4 nights.
$190/adult   $76/child  includes hut, bus, backcountry and booking fees
