Tetrahedron Outdoor Club

Tetrahedron Provincial Park

The Tetrahedron Outdoor Club (formerly Tetrahedron Ski Club) built the trails, as well as the four sturdy, 12-person, first-come-first-snooze cabins that lie at a variety of locations throughout the park.  To find your way to the trailhead from Hwy 101 in Sechelt, turn right on Wharf Ave, and then turn right on Porpoise Bay Rd. Continue for almost 10 km to Tuwanek, past Porpoise Bay Provincial Park. Just after crossing the bridge over Grey Creek, turn right onto the Grey Creek Forest Service Road. After ~1 km take the left fork (West). You will cross a bridge at ~7 km, and reach the lower parking lot - with info kiosk and outhouse - at 11 km. In summer you can continue 1+ km further to the upper parking lot, but the road is rough. In winter, when possible and by a generous volunteer, the road is plowed as far as the lower parking lot.
4-WHEEL DRIVE & CHAINS ARE NECESSARY FOR WINTER TRAVEL ON THIS ROAD.

TO FIND OUT OR POST ABOUT CURRENT CONDITIONS AND CABIN ACTIVITY PLEASE VISIT the outdoor reports page of SuncoastCentral.

The cabins are located at Batchelor Lake, above Edwards Lake, between McNair and Chapman Lakes, and below the summit of Mt. Steele (see our maps page for location maps and Bivouac.com for GPS data). Each cabin has a table and bench seating for 12, a sleeping loft upstairs, a wood stove and firewood (bring your own firestarter), tools, a snow melting pot, greywater buckets, and an outhouse. Steele cabin also has 12 covered foam mattresses. You must bring all sleeping and food equipment, and toilet paper. Drinking water can be collected from creeks near all cabins most of the year. In the winter those creeks may be running but if not snow can be melted on the wood stove and boiled on your personal cooking stove. All water should be treated by chemicals or heat.

All but the expert trail to Mount Steele are rated as intermediate ski runs. Bring your skins, as many of the approaches climb the steep-sided, clear-cut hillsides to Gilbert and Edwards Lakes. Trails lead from the Edwards cabin above Edwards Lake to the Mount Steele cabin above, or down to McNair cabin between Chapman and McNair Lakes.
NOTE: Dogs are not allowed in the Park and you can be fined for bringing yours along (this area is the community's watershed).

There is a $10/person per night fee for an overnight visit.
These fees help offset the club's costs of cutting and helicopter lifting of firewood for the stoves, cabin maintenance maintenance and upgrades, and snow plowing of the access road.  BC Parks does NOT provide firewood, cabin maintenance, or snow plowing of the access road.

Please pay your fee by either:

  1. mailing payment in one of the envelopes provided in the cabins or at the parking lot
  2. paying in person at the Shell Station in Wilson Creek (at Field Road near the IGA), or
  3. using the PayPal donation button on our Payment page.

Trail distances and times:

Distances and time are approximate, and will vary with conditions, gear, etc. Know your abilities and plan accordingly. Be aware that the distance markers in the park are not very accurate, and sometimes contradict each other. Winter routes may be shorter if lakes are frozen, but use caution when crossing.
